Actually, I think this would be a good thing. The opportunity for misunderstanding would not be eliminated, but it would certainly be diminished. Even when we all speak the same language, we still have words that have multiple meanings such as "run."
I thought that too. But, I'd miss the culture of different languages, that history and carrying on of tradition. Also, accents. It is nice to hear English spoken with various accents. If everyone spoke English the accents would disappear eventually.
