Making Someone Look Good

Write a profile for someone you know well. A friend, your Mother, a cousin... whoever you pick. Make an in depth profile as if you were describing them to a prospective lover or an alien who doesn't know what humans are or their children who are not born yet. What do you say about someone when it really matters and is really important to make them look good?

It's Okay to Lose Your Mind

Next time you're on the bus or taking a shower or any one of a dozen things and places where you can let your mind wander, write down at least three of the things your mind comes up with. I always get interesting ideas while in the shower or waiting for the bus to get me where I'm going. I don't always write them down. Sometimes I just don't have pen and paper or I am just too busy once I'm at my destination. I regret it cause the best ideas come when you just let your mind have free reign.

Keep Your Eye Patch On!

You're an old sea captain, weathered many storms and captured your share of both women and gold. But, the sea is rough and your crew has mutinied cause you made most of them walk the plank when they drank your rum. Now, your ship is sinking. You can't save it all by yourself and the nearest shore is far too far away. Do you go down with your ship or do you come up with some great plan to save your scurvy hide?

Hershey's have been coming out with more varities of their famous Kisses lately. There are even candy cane Kisses this year for Christmas. If they were to make a Hershey's Kiss in your honour what kind of flavour would it be? Describe it and the story/ reasoning behind it.

Plan a romantic weekend with the lover of your choice (real or imagined). Where do you go? What do you do? What is the most romantic thing that happens? At the end do you stay together or pass like two ships in the night?

Come up with a plan to find out if a guy/ gal at work likes you. Don't use the old kiddie thing of getting a friend to tell him you like him. Find something more sophisticated, more mature and subtle. Now that you're a ground up woman/man surely you can find a scheme... build a better mousetrap....

Speak Your Majesty

You've just inherited a castle from some long-lost branch of your family. When you finally get over there to take a look you also discover you are the ruling royalty for the area. Pretty much a figurehead in the modern age but still someone to be looked up to, someone who carries on a centuries old tradition. As your first duty you make a speech to the people of the land. What do you say?

Smell the Pennies!

You find a shiny new penny in the snow today. How lucky would you have to be to believe in the penny's good luck? Would something nice happening to you be enough or would you not even notice?

The Toaster Talks in It's Sleep

Pick an appliance from your kitchen: toaster, blender, or something more advanced like the microwave. Think about how it sits there in the kitchen, likely pretty quiet for long spaces of time while everyone is away at work and school. How does it spend all this free time? Imagine it has a consciousness, thoughts and some kind of personality. Does it interact with any other gadgets and appliances?

You travel forward in time. You stay one day in the future and when you are back you write about what you have seen and done. So, what do you write? How had things changed and how far ahead did you end up going?

How Guilty Are You?

Describe the feelings of being blamed for something you didn't do. What if you were being charged with a crime you were not guilty of? What if you really were guilty but trying to lie your way out of it? No mention of the crime, the facts, just the feelings.

The Lifespan of an Everyday Average Quarter

Describe the life of a quarter. It gets minted, pressed through the machines and dumped into a pile of shiny new quarters. Then... out into the world. Eventually, maybe a century later, it becomes recycled back into new quarters. Or, maybe it just disappears... never to be seen again. Think of all the adventures and things we take for granted that could happen to a small silvery piece of money.

Show Why You're Sorry

Create a character you would feel sorry for but write about them from the perspective of their appearance only. Through their appearance: choice of clothes, body language and their actions show how you feel about that character. Bonus for you if you can find a way to explain why, what happened to end them up in such a situation.

Make Yourself

Write about something you had to make yourself do. Something you had put off awhile or just wished you could put off awhile. What was it? What did you expect it would be and how did it, in fact, turn out? Sometimes the things we most try to avoid end up being a let down in the end cause they just didn't live up to all the build up we gave them. We trick ourselves in our own minds.

Ladybugs are Shiny and Red

The ladybugs are still out here. Preparing a space for themselves to shelter over winter. They've become cutified so often that people nearly forget they are of the insect realm, a common garden pest.

What does a ladybug think about as it crawls along a leaf in the garden? What kind of day has it been having? Give a ladybug a story, a background and some plans for the future.

Silence is a Sound

You're in a room by yourself, it's all quiet, not even the radio is on. Over your shoulder is an open window. The breeze floats in, stirring your hair. There is silence in the room and it's quiet outside. But, what do you hear? Think of all the little sounds... the things you only hear when it's quiet.

No Splogginess

It's been quite awhile since I did anything here. Kind of a shame when there is so much emphasis on monetizing and splogging and it has become rare to find a really good personal blog.

Why have so many bloggers gone to splog? Is it just greed? Jealousy? The thought of missing out on easy money? Short sitedness?

Whatever it is the blog world has not changed for the better from it. Reading a website (usually using blog software) has become like watching TV. You can go out for a snack while you wait for the junk to load. Then you sit there and seek out the content out from under all the junk.

This blog (whatever becomes of it) will continue to be personal, purely without splogginess.
